Domesticity
Doing laundry in New Orleans
Washing dishes to the rain,
Water getting on my jeans
While my thoughts wash down the drain.
Storms full of power bringing silence to my brain
Nature’s violent fortitude
Mixing together peace and pain
Oak trees
Thunder
Roots, all brave
It’s 6 am and I’m sitting on the screened in porch
Mystified watching a hurricane scorch the Earth
The day dark and close, a time for reprieve
The sky pours out
Bringing water and relief
Lovers kept inside
Quiet peace and ease,
I take refuge in this moment
Even though it’s brief.
I like the rain alone,
But I like it more with you
Silent listening
As the Earth
Is covered in fresh dew.
